Apple vs. The Postal Service
I love it when tiny groups of people try to take control and publicly flame a larger company in hopes of getting compensation and/or getting their way.
For example, BellSouth wants Google to pay for preferential treatment on their network. Stupid, right? Well this time, it’s the musical group The Postal Service (who I won’t link to because they don’t deserve the attention) who are whining about a similiar ad by Apple which mimics their music video.
The musical group, if you can call them that since their music sucks, claims the the video by Apple and it’s new Intel campaign [video] is infringing and strikingly similar to their music video, which also takes place inside of a clean room… (click read more)
My words to The Postal Service: screw off, and your music still sucks not simply because you’re whining like little schoolgirls that the ad is a ripoff of your music video, but because your music definitely sucked before the ad was ever aired. Not to mention, did you ever consider that maybe, just maybe all clean rooms where they develop and assemble chips looked similar? I mean, you can’t really jazz up the place with cool colors and whatnot, so therefore any video that is taken is going to look strikingly similar.
Just in case their whining statement disappears: It has recently come to our attention that Apple Computers' new television commercial for the Intel chip features a shot-for-shot recreation of our video for 'Such Great Heights' made by the same filmmakers responsible for the original. We did not approve this commercialization and are extremely disappointed with both parties that this was executed without our consultation or consent. -Ben Gibbard, The Postal Service
Again, stop being a little girl, Ben. If it’s made by the same filmakers, THEY own the right to that film unless you explicitly signed an agreement. If you did not, then I suggest you shut up and maybe take some vocal lessons or something so your music won’t suck as much as it does.
