Yahoo! and AOL to Offer a way around spam filter
Interesting…it seems that AOL and Yahoo! are offering a way for banks and other large institutions that send legitimate (read: non-fraudulent, non-deceptive) e-mail right to your inbox by bypassing their spam filters by paying a small fee per e-mail sent. Read the story
Am I against it? Not really, nor do I really care because I don’t have an e-mail address at either site that I use. The only reason I have a Yahoo! e-mail address (that by the way no one knows) is for TiVo. Sure, it’ll probably anger a lot of people, but it’s not like the e-mails are deceptive or phishing e-mails. They are legitimate e-mails from legitimate companies. Some will argue that it will increase the “junk” mail in their inboxes. Not really. The only e-mail that will bypass the filters are those companies that pay for the service. The only reason you’ll get the e-mail is if you’re on a mailing list that you either have business with the company or opt-ed into (I assume). Otherwise, it’d probably be a violation of the CAN SPAM Act, though we all know that’s not enforced very well.
