Steve Ballmer and His Kids – Interview

According to an article at CNN in an interview with Steve Ballmer, CEO of Microsoft, he doesn’t look too fondly on Google or the iPod market.

It’s rather amusing, I must say. First, he’s totally anti-Google and anti-iPod. That amuses me. But what’s more is that he refuses to let his kids use either of the services/products. It’s a bit sad, too, because I think he’d lay down a heavy hand and punish the kids with death if he had the choice if he caught his kids using Google or an iPod. Basically what it all comes down to is jealousy. If your competitors are doing something right and people are utilizing their services and products, then obviously they have an advantage over your company. That’s no reason to shun them and ban them from your household, certainly.

If Microsoft put some time and charisma into developing a portable music player and a decent search engine, they would be a competitor to Apple and Google, respectively. But at this point in time and with the recent announcement of the delay of Vista (the next generation OS from Microsoft), they are just getting a bad reputation and being continually blasted with criticism. While I don’t like Microsoft one bit, if I found that their products or services were better than the company I’m using now, I’d use them. It wouldn’t make sense not to use those services or products. The whole interview (namely the responses) are just cold-hearted jealousy of two rival companies that are excelling in what they do and actively taking steps to stay at the top of the competition line.
