Google Music Store?
Ok. So I usually don’t report rumors because, well, >50% of the time they are a waste of time and never happen. Yet, this one kind of intrigues me. It’s an article from Forbes that discusses the future of a Google Music Store. It’s interesting to me because for the most part, Google caters to Macs and Windows-based machines. This is a plus because it could mean competition for the iTunes Music Store.
Google has already launched their mini version of a “store”, so to speak. For example, when you type in a musical artist or group, the results will show the album cover and more information such as track listings, where to buy the album, etc at the very top of the page. That’s nice to know and does come in handy sometimes. Nonetheless, it’s still an interesting idea and it would definitely give Google some revenue. However, a lot of questions still remain: what format will the songs be in? Will the service be cross-platform? Will the music play nicely with MP3 devices? What’s the cost of the service, or is there one? What are the song prices?
That’s the reason I don’t report on rumors – too many factors and too much to consider. Still, it’s an interesting idea and concept, if Google can execute it correctly.
