Cirque du Soleil – Delirium

Last night, I went to see my second Cirque du Soleil show, Delirium. Last year, I went to see Varekai with Cara.

Delirium started off pretty weird. It was more music-based than acrobatics-based. The whole theme of the show, if you even attempt to understand it (which isn’t recommended), was Life and Death. One of the first words and only words said in the show was at the beginning where it was stated: “Life begins and ends as a question” and something along the lines of you don’t know the answer to it. That kind of bothered me but the show complimented that statement very well.

The idea in Delirium was that the whole show was a “weird dream” according to one of the performers. The interesting thing about the stage was that it was surrounded by curtains and projections were displayed on the curtains that were see through that added to the cool effect. For example, the curtains at one point in time displayed a bunch of doors with people dressed in insane asylum clothing popping in and out of doors. It came to a point in time where they all came out and were locked out of their doors so they began to pound on their doors and the screen would shake and the music and act would compliment that action.

Justice really isn’t done by me telling you what happened and what went on. It’s too hard to describe and there are entirely too many acts and cool things about Cirque du Soleil that cannot be put into words. Although the tickets are pricey, it’s worth every penny and I’d highly recommend going to see one of their shows, regardless of which show it is!
