Apple: It’s Showtime and Updates

Today, Apple announced the availability of iTunes 7 which includes a new icon, the ability to download movies from the iTunes Music Store, the ability to download cover art, 3 different views with cover flow view (which was acquired by Apple), backup system for purchased music/all music (via CD or DVD), and other various features including parental controls for movies, tv shows, and the pre iTunes 7 parental controls. With the announcement, there are also new iPods announced as well as a piece of hardware tentatively called iTV which allows viewing of content from your Mac on your TV. Pretty neat stuff, if you ask me.

The interface to iTunes is completely redesigned as well. It’s kind of weird if you ask me, but I’m sure I’ll get used to it. I’m not so sure I like the Plastic/Brushed Metal color to it. It’s not quite brushed metal (same color but not brushed) nor is it quite plastic (darker color same texture though).

As for the iPods that were announced today, it’s an update to the iPod Nano family. They are now available in brighter colors/contrast control, longer battery life, the availability of games (also included in the iTunes Music Store for $4.99 a piece), etc. Check out all of the updates at the Apple Store.

Another note: Don’t be alarmed if your music count is lower under “Music” in the library listing. Previously, this included music, movies, tv shows, podcasts, etc. Now, the listing at the bottom of the iTunes interface lists just that section selected. So if you’re in “Music”, you’ll just see the size of your music library and count of songs only.
