Featured Music: Gym Class Heroes – Cupid’s Chokehold

It’s been a while since I last did the featured music of the week. So here goes…

This week on Sirius Hits 1, I heard a song that had a catchy beat and some interesting lyrics. The song starts off about how this guy has a girlfriend and how Cupid has him in a tight grip. He goes on to discuss how well she takes care of him, and how he’s willing to devote his life to him even if it means becoming nocturnal (choosing between the sun and her).

He further goes on to inform his dad about how this girl is completely different, and not like the previous girls. He mentions that the way she says his name is different, and that she even has her own ringtone on his phone, which clearly means true love…The song ends with him saying you can basically call his relationship with this girl whatever you want, including dumb and he won’t care because he loves her.

Ironically, it’s not a sappy song with a sappy tune. It’s laid-back in its style and while the same beat plays over and over in the background for all lyrics but the chorus, it brings out the spoken vocals a lot and doesn’t ruin the song.
I’d recommend it mainly because it’s entirely different, catchy, and from an artist you won’t hear on terrestrial radio more than likely. Click the iTunes link below to sample the song or purchase it, or read the lyrics I transcribed below.

It really is a great song; that’s the whole reason I recommended it was because it’s different and not like the other songs out there!

Thanks for the comments!

oh yeah, this is a great song; very cool- but the idea didn’t come from supertramp only a couple of lines did. in supertramp the guy’s puttin his girlfriend down and wants to get away from her. in CC, he’s totally into the girl no matter what. i don’t like supertramp’s song. it’s boring and yeah slow and they play it everywhere-ugh! this is one of the best songs ever put out!
