Happy New Year, ABC countdown celebration, etc
As is customary on New Year’s Eve, I watched ABC’s countdown for the New Year 2007. Similar to last year, I was disappointed. Between Regis hosting the countdown in previous years and Ryan Seacrest hosting it in association with Dick Clark this year, I should have just fallen asleep. Ryan Seacrest doesn’t have the talent or experience to host anything and while Dick Clark sounded horrible (poor guy!), I’d still rather listen to him the entire show.
Also, a note on ABC and why their network is horrible in my eyes. Did anyone else notice that prior to the countdown it seemed that ABC only owned 4 cameras near the stage? The same teens with braces, ugly teeth, cell phones, and digital cameras continued to appear on my television screen. The one girl kept taking essentially the same picture of herself on the television monitor in Times Square when the camera panned to her. I hope at least one of the pictures turns out. Anyone want to bet money it’ll show up on the underage girl’s flash-laden, loud emo music, and usability nightmare of a MySpace page in the future?
Granted I could have watched another network but I had hope that ABC wouldn’t be so horrible this year. I kind of wonder, though, if Dick Clark feels obligated to do the New Year’s countdown every year because he’s held the “title” for so long. Either he really enjoys it and can’t show it because of his age and health conditions, or he’s getting paid a hefty amount of cash to do it. Either way, I feel bad for the guy and Ryan Seacrest, dare I say complimenting him in his show, doesn’t have the talent, nor experience to be a host. What definitely amused me was when he was on stage with Christina Aguilera after the ball dropped in Times Square and he went to kiss her and she turned away and then he kissed her on the cheek and she didn’t kiss back. Plus, he looked as if he was nervous to look at her the entire time, in a similar manner a shy teenage boy would approach a girl he likes in high school.
But whatever. All in all I’m glad I watched the ball drop and yeah, I could have watched another network but you know…it’s kind of hard to break a tradition sometimes!
Happy New Year all; now get working on those new year resolutions you’ll likely break by February (kudos to you if you don’t)!!
